John Lennon's Iconic 'Instant Karma' Performance at 1972 One to One Benefit Concert Unveiled on YouTube

A newly released video of John Lennon performing his hit song "Instant Karma! (We All Shine On)" at the 1972 One to One Benefit Concert has made its debut on Lennon's official YouTube channel. The concert took place at Madison Square Garden in New York City and aimed to raise funds for children with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The video showcases Lennon on an electric piano, accompanied by Yoko Ono and the rock band Elephant's Memory, delivering a soulful performance.
The remastered audio of the One to One performances will be part of the upcoming box set Power to the People, focusing on Lennon and Ono's politically charged music from the early 1970s. The Super Deluxe Edition of the box set includes nine CDs, three Blu-ray discs, a 204-page book, and replica memorabilia. The collection, produced by Sean Ono Lennon, offers a comprehensive look at the couple's musical journey during that period.
Inspired by a TV exposé on the conditions of mentally and physically handicapped children, Lennon and Ono organized the One to One concerts, which raised over $1.5 million. The concerts featured a mix of solo and collaborative songs, including The Beatles' "Come Together." The shows were a significant milestone for Lennon, marking his only full-length concerts post-Beatles era and evoking memories of his early music days.
The release of the "Instant Karma" video is a preview of the Power to the People box set, showcasing restored footage of Lennon's iconic performances. The concert film, set for release in 2026, will feature these performances, capturing the essence of Lennon's musical legacy. "Instant Karma" remains a timeless classic, reflecting Lennon's solo artistry and his enduring impact on music history.
