Via Sistina Named Australian Racehorse of the Year 2024-25: Highlights and Honors

Via Sistina, a champion mare trained by Chris Waller for Yulong, was named Australian Racehorse of the Year for the 2024-25 season. She dominated the voting with 202 out of 204 votes, surpassing Bella Nipotina and Treasurethe Moment. Via Sistina's impressive season included victories in seven group 1 races, including the Cox Plate and Queen Elizabeth Stakes. She also claimed the Champion Middle Distance title with 203 votes, outperforming her competitors Mr Brightside and Antino.

Marhoona, the Golden Slipper winner, was voted champion 2-year-old with 148 votes, narrowly beating Cool Archie. Treasurethe Moment, who won the VRC Oaks and ATC Oaks, was named champion 3-year-old filly with 161 votes, edging out Lady Shenandoah and Aeliana. Broadsiding was recognized as the champion 3-year-old colt/gelding, while Bella Nipotina, the Everest winner, received 200 votes to become the champion sprinter. Knight's Choice, the Melbourne Cup winner, was crowned the champion stayer.

The ceremony also honored Black Caviar and Winx by elevating them to legend status in the Australian Racing Hall of Fame. Additionally, Peter Moody, Zac Purton, John Tapp, Mahogany, and Hydrogen were inducted as Hall of Fame members.
