Dirt at the Downs: Celebrating 100 Years of Racing History at Hawkeye Downs Speedway

Hawkeye Downs Speedway is set to reintroduce dirt racing to its quarter-mile track this autumn in celebration of its 100th anniversary. The speedway, which originally featured dirt track racing from 1925 to the mid-1980s, is offering fans a chance to experience the nostalgia of the past with a series of special events. Collaborating with Benton County Speedway, the lineup includes IMCA Racing Night on September 27, Open Wheel Night on October 4, the “Dirt at the Downs Classic” on October 10 and 11, and Ken Schrader Racing Night on October 18, featuring NASCAR legend Ken Schrader.
Rick Dripps, Benton County Speedway Race Director, expressed excitement about the opportunity to celebrate the history of Hawkeye Downs with these special events. Fans can look forward to Honus Motorsports’ Demo Derby, Boneshaker Shutdown Vintage Drag Races, and the Prairie Pullers’ Mini Tractor Pull in September and October. Brian Gibson, Hawkeye Downs Race Director, emphasized the return of dirt racing as a true throwback experience for fans.
Despite the dirt racing events, Hawkeye Downs Speedway remains a part of the NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Racing Series and continues to host various events throughout the year.
