From Fashion to Beauty: A Journey of Self-Expression and Inspiration

My fascination with the beauty world began with fashion in the 1960s, a time of post-war youth rebellion and self-expression. The 1970s, with icons like the Beatles and David Bowie, were a golden era of inspiration and freedom for me as a teenager. Bowie's ever-evolving style and persona deeply influenced me, making me appreciate the power of individuality and self-expression.

Beauty, to me, is about recognizing and appreciating the beauty in everything around us, from colors and forms to relationships and nature. Having an eye for beauty is a gift that not everyone possesses, and I am grateful for the ability to see and appreciate the beauty in the world.

Throughout my career, I have had many proud moments, but one that stands out is the longevity of my success. Despite the saying that pride comes before a fall, I am proud to have sustained my career for so long and continue to thrive in the beauty industry.

Debbie Harry, with her punk rock allure and ethereal beauty, is my ultimate beauty icon. Her timeless appeal and unique style have made her a constant source of inspiration for me and many others in the fashion world.

One of the most memorable experiences in my career was working with Princess Diana, accompanying her on trips to refugee camps and charitable missions. These experiences were eye-opening and challenging but ultimately expanded my horizons and enriched my perspective on the world.

The creation of my brand, Hair by Sam McKnight, was a natural progression from my work in the industry. Faced with the need for lightweight and effective styling products, I set out to develop a range that was powerful yet easy to use, leading to the launch of innovative products like the Pure Genius Scalp Oil and The Fragrance (With Benefits).

Collaborating with iconic figures like Kate Moss and reuniting with supermodels like Cindy Crawford, Christie Turlington, Naomi Campbell, and Linda Evangelista has been a highlight of my career. These reunions evoke memories of our formative years and the special bond we shared during our early days in the fashion industry.

In terms of my personal grooming routine, I prioritize fitness with Pilates, circuit training, and yoga, along with daily electrolyte supplements. I rely on skincare essentials like the Jones Road Hippie Stick, Skin Rocks The Cream Cleanser, and Caudalie Replenishing Body Butter to maintain healthy skin and combat psoriasis.

When it comes to fragrances, I keep a variety of scents in my kitchen to choose from before leaving the house. Dior Eau Sauvage and Comme des Garcons Series 4 Cologne Vettiveru are among my favorites, along with the refreshing scent of newly cut grass and the Diptyque Tubéreuse candle.

A valuable hair hack that I believe everyone should know is that perfection is not necessary when styling your hair. Embracing imperfections can actually enhance your look and add character to your hairstyle.

If given the opportunity to style the hair of one historical figure, it would be the late Queen. Imagining the transformation of her iconic hairstyle would be a daring and exciting challenge, even if it meant facing consequences for altering her signature look.
