Borderlands Movie 2024: Box Office Flop and Future Transmedia Opportunities
The Borderlands movie released in 2024 did not perform well at the box office and received mixed reviews. Despite this, Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford remains open to future transmedia opportunities if the right team and ideas align. Pitchford compared the creative process to music, citing The Beatles as an example of not every creation being a hit.
Pitchford expressed that he would not have directed the Borderlands movie differently and believes it would have been worse if he had been in charge. The movie, funded by Lionsgate, faced challenges during production and marketing, leading to financial losses for the studio.
Despite the movie's star-studded cast and the established fan base of the Borderlands franchise, the film failed to meet expectations. Cate Blanchett, one of the lead actors, mentioned that she took on the role to break the monotony of Covid lockdowns.
