Darius Rucker: Musician, Golfer, and Philanthropist Making a Mark on the Golfing World
Darius Rucker is currently on his 2025 international tour, performing in various locations such as California, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Charleston, S.C. During his tour, he often sings popular songs like “Wagon Wheel,” “It Won’t Be Like This For Long,” “Hold My Hand,” and “Only Wanna Be With You.” Apart from his music career, Rucker is an avid golfer and enjoys playing the sport whenever he can, typically hitting the golf course about four to five days a week.
Rucker's interest in golf began when he was 14 years old, introduced to the game by his best friend's father, Captain Richard Johannes. Despite pursuing a successful music career, Rucker has maintained his passion for golf and currently holds a 5.9 handicap. He not only plays golf but also gives back to the sport by creating opportunities for young players through various initiatives and tournaments.
One of Rucker's contributions to golf is the establishment of the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate, a tournament for NCAA Division I women's collegiate golf held annually at the Long Cove Club in Hilton Head Island, S.C. Additionally, he co-hosts the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate, a NCAA Division I men's collegiate golf tournament, with his Hootie & the Blowfish bandmates. Rucker's philanthropic efforts extend to hosting charity events like the Darius & Friends concert and golf event for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and the Monday After the Masters event benefiting junior golf programs in South Carolina.
Recognized for his contributions to the game, Rucker was named the 2025 Ambassador of Golf during the Kaulig Companies Championship in Akron, Ohio. This prestigious honor places him among esteemed individuals like Jack Nicklaus, Nancy Lopez, and Steph Curry, who have made significant contributions to golf and charitable causes.
