Gigi Hadid's Audition for Disney's Live-Action 'Tangled' Remake: A Look Behind the Scenes

Gigi Hadid recently shared in a Vogue magazine cover story that she had auditioned for the lead role of Rapunzel in Disney's live-action "Tangled" remake, which is currently on hold. The supermodel is contemplating a more significant shift into acting after dabbling in voice roles and cameos in movies like "Ocean's 8." She even took singing lessons to prepare for her Rapunzel audition.
The news of Disney developing a live-action "Tangled" movie with director Michael Gracey and writer Jennifer Kaytin Robinson surfaced in December 2024. However, the project was later put on indefinite hold following the underperformance of the live-action "Snow White" movie at the box office. The decision to halt the remake was made after the success of the live-action "Lilo & Stitch" remake, which grossed over $1 billion.
"Tangled" narrates the story of Rapunzel, a princess voiced by Mandy Moore, who is rescued from her tower by an outlaw named Flynn Rider, voiced by Zachary Levi. The film, released in 2010, received positive reviews and earned $592 million worldwide. It also spawned spinoffs like the short film "Tangled Ever After" and the TV series "Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure."
Corey Mylchreest, known for his roles in "Queen Charlotte" and "My Oxford Year," revealed to Seventeen Magazine that he auditioned for the role of Flynn Rider in "Tangled." However, he admitted to lacking confidence in his singing abilities, unlike Hadid, who felt proud of her audition scene.
With the live-action remake of "Moana" set to premiere on July 10, 2026, Disney continues to explore new adaptations of beloved animated classics. The fate of the "Tangled" remake remains uncertain, but Hadid's enthusiasm for the audition process reflects her growing interest in pursuing acting opportunities in the future.
