The Nirvana: Taking Punk to the Masses exhibition in Seattle has officially closed its doors after a successful 14-year run. Curator Jacob McMurray, the mastermind behind the Nirvana exhibit, explained that the decision to close the exhibition was influenced by various factors, including the desire of lenders to reclaim their items for personal reasons or other projects. The exhibition aimed to be community-oriented, with primary sources telling the band's story through their personal belongings. Despite the closure, fans can still appreciate the legacy of Nirvana through McMurray's book, which delves into the artefacts displayed in the exhibition.
Former Nirvana drummer and current Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl reflected on his visit to the exhibition with his daughters in 2013. Grohl was surprised by the genuine interest and emotional connection fans had with the band's memorabilia, realizing the impact of Nirvana's legacy on their lives. Bassist Krist Novoselic also made a surprise appearance at the exhibition's closing ceremony, sharing his experience of donating his personal items to the museum for fans to enjoy.
