Halifax Mooseheads: Building on Past Success for the Upcoming Season

The Halifax Mooseheads had a remarkable season last year, making history as the first sixteenth seeded team to win a playoff round in QMJHL history. This season, they have 17 returning players, including their top three scorers Quinn Kennedy, Liam Kilfoil, and Shawn Carrier. Daniel Walters, a first-round draft pick in the 2024 QMJHL Draft, is poised for a breakout season. German Carlos Handel, who was selected by the Montreal Canadiens in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft, will be back on the blue line alongside Owen Phillips. The Mooseheads are determined to climb up the standings once again.
While there isn't much room for new players on the Mooseheads roster, those who have joined the team are expected to make an immediate impact. Connor MacPherson, the only 20-year-old on the team, brings a heavy shot and strong cycle game to the lineup. Wingers Oleg Kulebyakin and Jasu Mensonen, selected at the 2025 CHL Import Draft, will make their debuts. Malik L’Italien, a puck-moving defenseman, and Paulo Gualberto Jr., a scoring forward, are also new additions to the team. These newcomers are set to contribute to the Mooseheads' success this season.
The Mooseheads' standout player last season was goaltender Jacob Steinman, who was instrumental in their success. With Steinman moving on to the NCAA ranks, Owen Bresson, acquired from the Shawinigan Cataractes, will now take over in goal. Nicolas Gillham-Cirka, who served as an understudy last season, will also provide depth in the crease. The Mooseheads are looking to build on their past success and continue their winning ways in the upcoming season.
