Flashback to Folsom's Great Snail Race: A Community Tradition Remembered
In celebration of our 70th anniversary, KCRA 3 is revisiting community stories from our archives. One such event that was a long-standing tradition in Folsom was the Great Snail Race. The race, sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce, aimed to raise funds for a sports complex. Participants in the race employed various tactics to speed up their snails, including blowing on them and even feeding them beer. Former Congressman Vic Fazio, who passed away in 2022, was one of the competitors in the race. The Folsom Athletic Association eventually took over the event and organized it for a decade. Proceeds from the Snail Race contributed to the Lois Young High School Scholarship. Watch the full report from 1982 above for more details.
