Salmon Ice Rink Renovation: A Community Hub for Hockey and Skating Enthusiasts

Salmon's hockey rink is undergoing a significant renovation that began in April and is nearing completion. The old sand-based ice rink has been replaced with a more efficient concrete slab, making it easier to freeze the ice for hockey games and community events. The project, costing $1 million, has been in the works for five years and is funded through grants and donations. The upgraded facility will continue to serve the community for years to come, providing a cost-effective and low-maintenance venue for kids to play hockey and ice skate.
Managed by the Salmon Hockey Association, the ice rink is a popular spot for kids and the public alike. Approximately 130 kids participate in hockey activities throughout the year, and the rink is open for ice skating as well. The renovation will ensure that the venue remains a vital part of the community, offering opportunities for kids to learn and play hockey in a well-maintained facility. The completion of the project is expected later this month, just in time for the upcoming hockey season starting in mid-November.
Sydnee Cluff, a senior at Salmon Jr/Sr High School, has been actively involved in fundraising efforts for the ice rink's improvement. She recognizes the importance of the rink in the community and has worked to raise awareness about the renovation project. Sydnee's dedication to preserving and enhancing the facility reflects the widespread support and interest in the ice rink's future. The annual benefit dinner, scheduled for September 27 at 5 p.m., will coincide with the reopening of the rink, providing an opportunity for the community to celebrate the completion of the renovation.
The Salmon ice rink, established in the 1990s and currently located at 808 Lombard Street, has been a cherished gathering place for residents over the years. With the latest renovation, the facility is poised to continue serving as a hub for hockey enthusiasts and ice skaters in the community. The upgraded rink will offer a more efficient and sustainable environment for recreational activities, ensuring that future generations can enjoy the benefits of this beloved community asset.
