Wayne Rooney Joins Football Icons for Nexon's Icons Match Charity Event in Seoul

Wayne Rooney, the legendary Manchester United player, has accepted a new role to participate in a charity event alongside other football stars. He will be part of Nexon's Icons Match, where 11 attackers will face 11 defenders. The event is scheduled to take place on September 13/14 in Seoul, and Rooney will be joined by former teammates Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand. Last year's match featured renowned players like Didier Drogba, Yaya Toure, John Arne Riise, and Thierry Henry, with a portion of the ticket sales donated to the Nexon Children's Rehabilitation Hospital.
Rooney expressed his surprise at having Rio Ferdinand on the pitch and praised Vidic for his fitness level. He mentioned his desire to play alongside Thierry Henry, highlighting the competitive spirit between attackers and defenders in such matches. The event has also attracted other football icons like Ronaldinho, Michael Carrick, Sol Campbell, Alessandro Nesta, Iker Casillas, and Gilberto Silva for the 2025 edition.
Since leaving Plymouth Argyle in December, Rooney has been more involved in media work, appearing on platforms like the BBC. It remains uncertain if he is considering a return to management. The upcoming Icons Match promises an exciting lineup of football stars coming together for a charitable cause, showcasing their skills and camaraderie on the field.
