Coldplay's Record-Breaking Tour: Surpassing Taylor Swift and Making Music History

Coldplay is on track to break the record for the highest-grossing touring musicians, potentially surpassing Taylor Swift, as they plan to extend their tour with an additional 138 gigs in 2027. The band, consisting of Chris Martin, Jonny Buckland, Will Champion, and Guy Berryman, has already played 211 shows as part of their Music of the Spheres World Tour, which began in 2022. With their tour grossing over £1 billion, Coldplay could surpass Swift's record as the highest-grossing musician of all time, as they currently earn £4.8 million per night.
Chris Martin announced the extension of Coldplay's tour during their recent shows at Wembley Stadium, where they became the first musical act to play 10 nights in a single tour, breaking a record previously held by Swift. The band's decision to add more shows in 2027 comes after a successful run of performances and a temporary pause in their tour. Martin mentioned that the band plans to take a break before returning to the stage in two years to continue their tour.
Coldplay's eventful year also included a viral video of a tech CEO cuddling his employee on the band's 'kiss cam' during one of their shows. The incident led to the company boss resigning from his role after the video gained widespread attention. Despite the unexpected moments, Coldplay remains focused on their music, having released 10 studio albums over their 25-year career, with their latest album, Moon Music, released in 2024. Martin has confirmed that their twelfth album will be their last, but reassured fans that they will continue touring in the future.
