Spurs Unveil Red McCombs Community Court at Tower Park: A Tribute to San Antonio Basketball Legacy
The San Antonio Spurs, in collaboration with the McCombs family and Hemisfair, have inaugurated the Red McCombs Community Court at Tower Park, the first public basketball court in downtown San Antonio's Hemisfair district. This initiative continues the Spurs' longstanding commitment to investing in the local community. The opening ceremony was attended by Spurs players like George Gervin, David Robinson, Victor Wembanyama, and Keldon Johnson, as well as team executives and the McCombs family. Following the ceremony, a youth basketball clinic was hosted by the Spurs Sports Academy, providing young athletes with the opportunity to play on the new court.
Peter J. Holt, Chairman and Managing Partner of Spurs Sports & Entertainment, emphasized the significance of the new court, stating that it symbolizes the past, present, and future of San Antonio basketball. The court's design, created by Gómez Vázquez International, pays homage to the architecture of HemisFair '68 and incorporates the team's classic fiesta colors. Located near the former HemisFair Arena, the court serves as a tribute to the Spurs' origins in the city.
In other news, the Spurs have announced the re-signing of center Bismack Biyombo, adding depth to their big man rotation. Biyombo, who played 28 games for the Spurs last season, averaged 5.1 points and 5.6 rebounds per game. His return strengthens the team's frontcourt alongside players like Victor Wembanyama, Kelly Olynyk, and Luke Kornet. The terms of Biyombo's contract were not disclosed.
