The Muppet Show 50th Anniversary Special: A Star-Studded Celebration on Disney+

"The Muppet Show" is making a return on Disney+ with a special event planned for 2026 to celebrate the show's 50th anniversary. The Muppets will be back at the Muppet Theatre to put on a variety show, with Sabrina Carpenter as a guest star. This special could potentially lead to a new version of the beloved series. The special will feature veteran Muppet performers along with additional performers, with Bill Barretta, Dave Goelz, Eric Jacobson, Peter Linz, David Rudman, and Matt Vogel taking on the majority of the Muppet characters. Goelz, who has been with The Muppets for over 50 years, was part of the original "The Muppet Show" and created characters like Gonzo and Dr. Bunsen Honeydew. Albertina Rizzo is the writer and executive producer, while Alex Timbers will direct and serve as an executive producer. Carpenter is also an executive producer on this installment. The special is produced by 20th Television, Disney Branded Television, The Muppets Studio, and Point Grey Pictures.
"The Muppet Show," created by Jim Henson, originally aired from 1976 to 1981 and featured guest appearances from A-list stars like Elton John, Johnny Cash, Diana Ross, and more. The show was a global success and helped elevate the Muppets to fame. Seth Rogen, along with other executive producers, is involved in the production of the special. Carpenter is managed by Volara and Foundation Media Partners and represented by The LEDE Company and Paradigm for film and TV.
