Tragic Fall from Mount Roberts: Cruise Ship Passenger's Fatal Accident in Juneau
A tragic incident occurred in Juneau when a cruise ship passenger fell to his death from Mount Roberts near downtown. The victim, identified as 36-year-old Britian Pool from Texas, was located by search and rescue responders using drones. His body was recovered by the Alaska State Troopers and Juneau Mountain Rescue after he and another man fell from the Mount Roberts trail and slid down the mountainside. Capital City Fire/Rescue also assisted in the rescue operation near the tram.
Both men involved in the incident were passengers on a cruise ship that was visiting Juneau for the day. While one of the men suffered minor injuries and was rescued, Pool's body is being sent to the state medical examiner's office. His next of kin have been notified about the tragic event. This marks the second cruise ship passenger fatality from a fall on Mount Roberts this year, adding to the total of five deaths in the backcountry around Juneau this summer.
