From Sunderland to Kansas City: The Soccer Journey of Stan Cummins

Stan Cummins, a former professional English soccer player, is well-known among Sunderland AFC fans for his impressive career. After playing in England for 10 seasons, he ended his career with the Kansas City Comets in 1988-89 and decided to settle in Kansas City. Stan has been living in Kansas City for the past 40 years, where he raised his children and coached youth soccer teams. He met his wife, Robin, online in 2007, and they got married in 2008.
Robin has filled their dining room with trophies celebrating Stan's career achievements, including a Sunderland Player of the Year trophy from the 1980-81 season. Stan began his soccer journey with Middlesbrough FC's Academy at the age of 14 and later played for Sunderland, where he scored 29 goals in 133 appearances. He also had stints with the NASL's Minnesota Kicks and Crystal Palace before joining the Kansas City Comets for his final professional season.
Despite initially being unfamiliar with Kansas City's location, Stan found a home in the city and has been actively involved in coaching youth soccer. He and Robin are excited about the growing popularity of soccer, or football as they call it, in Kansas City. The English Premier League Mornings Live show will be broadcasting from KC Live inside Power & Light this weekend, showcasing the city's love for the sport.
