Record $355 Million Distribution to Clubs Worldwide: Fifa's Club Benefits Programme for 2026 World Cup

Fifa has announced a significant increase in the distribution of funds to clubs worldwide through the Club Benefits Programme (CBP) tied to the 2026 World Cup. The amount is set to reach a record $355 million, a substantial rise from the $209 million distributed after the 2022 tournament in Qatar. This initiative will now compensate clubs for releasing players not only for the World Cup finals but also for qualifiers, marking a new approach to supporting global club football.

The renewed memorandum of understanding between Fifa and the European Club Association (ECA) signed in March 2023 aims to create a more inclusive and equitable system for global club football. This enhanced edition of the Fifa Club Benefits Programme for the 2026 World Cup acknowledges the significant contribution made by clubs and players worldwide to both the qualifiers and the final tournament. Fifa President Gianni Infantino emphasized the financial recognition of clubs and players in a statement.

The Club Benefits Programme was initially introduced for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, benefiting 440 clubs from 51 Fifa member associations in 2022. With the inclusion of compensation for qualifiers in the 2026 edition, the number of clubs benefiting from the programme is expected to increase significantly. ECA chair Nasser Al-Khelaifi praised the programme as innovative, highlighting the crucial role that clubs play in the success of national team football and the recognition of their contributions at all levels.

The 2026 World Cup is scheduled to take place from June 11 to July 19 in the United States, Mexico, and Canada. This distribution of funds through the Club Benefits Programme underscores Fifa's commitment to supporting clubs and players involved in the World Cup qualifiers and finals, promoting a more inclusive and equitable approach to global club football.
