Kobe Bufkin: The Rising Star of the Brooklyn Nets

Kobe Bufkin, who just turned 22, is one of the youngest players on the Brooklyn Nets roster for the upcoming 2025-26 season. He was acquired by the Nets for a minimal cost of $110,000 in cash considerations, without any draft picks attached. Bufkin, primarily a point guard but also capable of playing off the ball, was the 15th pick in the 2023 NBA Draft. Despite limited playing time due to injuries in his first two seasons, NBA analyst Sam Vecenie believes the Nets made a smart move by acquiring Bufkin, calling it a "home run" for the team.
Vecenie praised Bufkin's feel for the game, shooting ability, and versatility to play both on and off the ball. He sees Bufkin as a player who can complement stars on the court and believes he is worth the investment for the Nets. With only three 19-year-old point guards on the roster, Bufkin is likely to get opportunities to showcase his skills in Brooklyn. The team will have a limited number of games to evaluate Bufkin's long-term potential before deciding whether to extend his contract for the 2026-27 season.
During the Summer League in Las Vegas, Bufkin impressed while playing for the Hawks, averaging 19.5 points, 5.2 rebounds, 4.2 assists, and a steal per game. His scoring average ranked eighth in the Summer League, showcasing his offensive capabilities. However, Bufkin still needs to work on his 3-point shooting, as he has yet to reach a 30% shooting percentage from beyond the arc. Despite the Nets not revealing their specific plans for Bufkin, it is evident that they see potential in the young guard and are willing to give him opportunities to prove himself on the court.
