Mark Holton Shines in Debut for Campbellsville University Soccer Team
Tullamore native Mark Holton, a talented soccer player, recently made an impressive debut for the Campbellsville University soccer team in Kentucky. The 18-year-old scored two goals in a match against Midway University, helping his team secure a 4-2 victory. Mark, who completed his Leaving Certificate this year, is on a soccer scholarship at the university and is joined by fellow Midlands player Oisin Lalor.
Mark's early goals in the fourth and 10th minutes set the tone for Campbellsville's win, with additional goals from teammates Mihlali Blesi from South Africa and Izan Garcia Gancedo from Spain. Mark's soccer journey began in Mucklagh, where he was coached by Kane Lynch, Michael Burns, and David Power. He later excelled with Tullamore Town under the guidance of Mick Conroy and Brendan Bracken, before moving on to play for various clubs such as Longford Town, Bohemians, St Kevin's, and Shelbourne.
The son of local businessman Liam Holton and his wife Olivia, Mark also showcased his football skills with Tullamore GAA, particularly known for his free-taking ability. His success on the soccer field is a testament to the support and guidance he received from coaches like John O'Connor, Martin Cunningham, Noel Courtney, and Gary Seery throughout his development. Mark's promising start at Campbellsville University highlights his potential for a successful soccer career ahead.
