The Solis Bowl: A Legacy of Soccer and Family

A Connecticut high school soccer coach celebrates 50 years of coaching as Arturo Solis, the head coach of O’Brien Tech, faces off against his son, Adrian Solis, the head coach of Abbott Tech. The two teams meet twice a season in what is known as the Solis Bowl, a special event for the Solis family. Arturo has been coaching for half a century, passing on his knowledge and passion for the sport to his son, Adrian, who played for his father before becoming his assistant coach. Despite being on opposite sides of the field since 2019, the Solis family remains united in their dedication to using soccer as a tool to teach discipline and life skills to younger generations.
For the Solis family, soccer has been more than just a game—it has been a way of life. Arturo Solis credits soccer for his success, as it provided him with opportunities to go to college and earn scholarships. Now, he sees coaching as a way to give back to the sport that has given him so much. The Solis Bowl is not just a competition between two teams; it is a symbol of gratitude and a way to honor the impact that soccer has had on their lives.
In their most recent matchup, Adrian and Abbott Tech emerged victorious, but the Solis Bowl is far from over. The two teams will meet again in October for a rematch, adding another chapter to the long history of the Solis family's involvement in high school soccer. As they continue to coach and inspire young players, the Solis family remains committed to using soccer as a platform to instill valuable life lessons and help the next generation grow and succeed.
