IM ABLE Games: Fitness, Fun, and Community Engagement at Reading Regional Airport

The IM ABLE Games: Races and Reps on the Runway recently took place at the Mid-Atlantic Air Museum at Reading Regional Airport in Bern Township. The event attracted 184 participants and involved 40 staff and volunteers. Against the backdrop of vintage planes on an active runway, the event combined fitness, fun, and community engagement. The activities were designed to be inclusive of all ages, fitness levels, and abilities.

Participants had the opportunity to take part in a variety of activities, including a 2-Mile Fun Run, Walk or Roll, and a Sprint Duathlon run and bicycle race. The Kaaginator Fitness Challenge, inspired by IM ABLE Foundation founder Chris Kaag, featured a series of fitness stations that could be completed individually or as part of a team relay. Additionally, there was a wing-eating contest to add a fun element to the event.

The proceeds from the event go towards supporting the IM ABLE Foundation's mission of helping individuals with disabilities stay active through adaptive equipment grants and inclusive programs. One of the beneficiaries of the event is Steve McLaughlin, a 41-year-old from Blandon who became a quadriplegic in a workplace accident. The funds raised will help purchase an adaptive bike for Steve, enabling him to enjoy outdoor activities and supporting other adaptive athletes in the community.

In conclusion, the IM ABLE Games provided a platform for individuals of all abilities to come together, participate in fitness challenges, and support a worthy cause. The event showcased the power of community, inclusivity, and the importance of staying active, regardless of physical limitations.
