Empowering Global Cinema: Sata Cissokho Takes the Helm at Berlinale's WCF and Toolbox Programme

The Berlinale World Cinema Fund (WCF) and Toolbox Programme have a new leader in Sata Cissokho, who brings her expertise from her previous role at Paradise City. Vincenzo Bugno, who led the WCF for 21 years, has passed the torch to Cissokho as he departs at the end of 2025. Cissokho's role will involve overseeing the strategic development of both the WCF and the Toolbox Programme, aiming to create synergies within the Berlinale Pro industry offerings.

The WCF has a rich history of funding projects, supporting 370 initiatives, including acclaimed films like "A Separation" and "The Mysterious Gaze of the Flamingo." The Toolbox Programme, established in 2022, focuses on supporting producers from underrepresented countries in the film industry, providing them with networking opportunities and industry knowledge to advance their careers. Notable alumni include Leah Baker, producer of "The President’s Cake."

With 15 years of experience in curation, production, distribution, and international sales, Cissokho is well-equipped to lead the WCF and Toolbox Programme. Her previous work at Paradise City involved selecting projects, supporting emerging filmmakers, and promoting international recognition for directors. Cissokho's appointment has been met with enthusiasm from Berlinale Pro Director Tanja Meissner, who believes she is the perfect fit to lead the next chapter of the WCF and Toolbox Programme.

Cissokho expressed her excitement about taking on the leadership role at the WCF, emphasizing the importance of supporting diversity in global cinema. She is committed to championing new and underrepresented voices in the industry, aligning with the WCF's mission to promote impactful and culturally significant films. As she transitions into her new role, Cissokho looks forward to continuing the legacy of the WCF and creating opportunities for filmmakers and producers worldwide.
