Howl Owl Howl: Darius Rucker's New Supergroup Takes the Stage

Darius Rucker, the lead singer of Hootie and the Blowfish, has teamed up with Mike Mills from R.E.M. and Steve Gorman from the Black Crowes to form a new supergroup called Howl Owl Howl. Their first single, "My Cologne," is set to be released on October 31, followed by their debut tour starting on November 3 at the Vogue in Indianapolis, Indiana. Rucker expressed his excitement about singing with a rock band again, while Mills emphasized the band chemistry and mutual admiration among the members.

The group's music is described as a fusion of organic roots rock with an alternative flair, combining a rhythmic rhythm section with Rucker's distinctive vocals. The band's formation began with casual jam sessions in 2021 and was kept under wraps until Rucker revealed it in an interview with Rolling Stone. The band's upcoming album release date is still unknown, but they will be performing songs from it during their tour, along with tracks from R.E.M., the Black Crowes, and Hootie and the Blowfish.

The tour will feature a mix of Howl Owl Howl originals and covers of songs by the band members' previous groups. Gorman expressed his excitement about finally being able to perform live and showcase their music to audiences. Rucker, who has previously covered R.E.M. songs with Hootie and the Blowfish, is looking forward to sharing the stage with his new bandmates and playing a diverse setlist for fans.

While Hootie and the Blowfish recently played a show in Hawaii, Rucker hinted that the band might not tour again for several years. In the meantime, Howl Owl Howl is gearing up for their upcoming tour dates, which include stops in cities like Chicago, Washington, D.C., New York, and Atlanta. Fans can expect a dynamic live performance from the supergroup as they bring their unique blend of rock music to audiences across the country.
