From Finance to Fast Lanes: The Inspiring Journey of Sam Hunt Racing

Sam Hunt made a bold move by leaving his finance career to pursue his dream of owning a NASCAR team. He lived in a van for the first six months to save money and build Sam Hunt Racing (SHR). Currently, SHR fields two entries in the Xfinity Series, the No. 26 and the No. 24 Toyota GR Supras.

In a recent interview, Hunt shared the challenges he faced when he decided to leave his stable career for NASCAR ownership. He parked his van at a race shop, showered at a nearby gym, and sometimes rented a cheap motel room after successful weekends. Hunt even had to sell the van to pay for a pit crew.

After graduating from Virginia Commonwealth University with a finance degree, Hunt competed in the ARCA Menards Series East before relocating to Mooresville, NC, to establish SHR. The team made its Xfinity Series debut at Homestead in 2019 and has since grown to employ 23 full-time staff.

Despite the stress of managing the team, Hunt finds fulfillment in supporting his team's livelihoods. He initially pursued personal ambition but now aims to win races for his team's shared dream. Sam Hunt Racing's No. 26 car is driven by rookie Dean Thompson, who has achieved six top-10 finishes this season, including a fifth-place at Charlotte Motor Speedway in May.

The No. 24 Toyota lineup for SHR has featured various drivers this year, such as Corey Heim, Ryan Truex, and Christopher Bell. Sam Hunt's dedication and determination have propelled his team to success in the competitive world of NASCAR.
