Whitesnake's Hit Songs: From Almost Giving Away 'Fool For Your Loving' to Keeping 'Is This Love

Whitesnake, a rock band led by David Coverdale, almost gave away their hit song "Fool For Your Loving" to blues legend BB King. The band's guitarist Bernie Marsden had a connection with King, who enjoyed Whitesnake's cover of the R&B song "Ain't No Love In The Heart Of The City." Initially written with King in mind, the band decided to keep "Fool For Your Loving" after recording a demo, which became a major hit in the UK, peaking at No.13.
The success of "Fool For Your Loving" mirrored a similar situation with the ballad "Is This Love" from Whitesnake's 1987 album. Co-written by Coverdale and guitarist John Sykes, the song was originally intended for Tina Turner. However, Coverdale realized the song's potential and decided to keep it for Whitesnake. "Is This Love" went on to reach No.9 in the UK and No.2 in the US, proving to be a wise decision for the band.
