Nicolas Cage Returns as Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance Comes to Netflix in October 2025

Netflix is set to add Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance to its October lineup, marking the return of Marvel's antihero. The film, starring Nicolas Cage as Johnny Blaze, will be available for streaming in the United States starting October 1, 2025. Directed by Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor, the movie follows Blaze as he teams up with a secret sect to protect a boy from evil forces.

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, a sequel to the 2007 Ghost Rider film, was shot in Romania and Turkey, featuring darker visuals to portray a grittier version of the character. Despite a lower production budget of $57 million compared to the first film, the sequel earned $132.5 million worldwide upon its release in 2012. However, it received negative reviews from critics, with an 18% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 34 on Metacritic.

Following the release of Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, Nicolas Cage expressed his decision to not continue with the Ghost Rider movies, leading to the cancellation of a third installment. In 2013, the film rights reverted to Marvel Studios, and the character later appeared in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. as Robbie Reyes.

The addition of Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance to Netflix's October lineup coincides with other releases on October 1, including the Austin Powers trilogy, Beverly Hills Cop films, Elysium, and Hacksaw Ridge. Netflix's lineup for October features a mix of classic films, recent releases, and new Originals spanning various genres like comedy, action, anime, drama, and true crime. Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance brings one of Marvel's darker tales to the streaming platform's collection.
