Grateful Dead x Pantone: Unveiling 'Grateful Red' and 'Stealie Blue' - A Tribute to Iconic Colors

The Grateful Dead has introduced its own signature colors in collaboration with Pantone, unveiling "Grateful Red" and "Stealie Blue" inspired by the band's iconic Steal Your Face logo. These colors were extracted from the 1973 album "Bear's Choice," featuring the lightning bolt skull design. The band's president, Mark Pinkus, emphasized the significance of these shades in defining the band's identity.

David Lemieux, the band's archivist, highlighted the importance of the lightning bolt, red, and blue hues in the Steal Your Face logo. Pantone has launched a merchandise line to commemorate this milestone, offering T-shirts, hoodies, and mugs. Laurie Pressman from the Pantone Color Institute expressed how colors can evoke emotions similar to the Grateful Dead's music, creating a visual language that preserves the band's legacy.

This collaboration is part of the Grateful Dead's 60th-anniversary celebrations, which included various tributes and releases like the 60-CD collection "Gratest Hits" and the reissue of "Blues for Allah." The band's influence was further showcased by a cover of "Friend of the Devil" by Zach Bryan and John Mayer, performed in front of a record-breaking crowd in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Additionally, ski maker Atomic unveiled a limited-edition Bent 110 featuring psychedelic graphics and the GD60 logo, celebrating the band's unparalleled visual iconography. The Grateful Dead's enduring legacy continues to captivate audiences and inspire new generations.
