Seven Sorrows Eagles: Overcoming Adversity and Staying Strong as a Team
A youth football program in Middletown, the Seven Sorrows Eagles, faced an abrupt end to their season due to alleged racial slurs directed at players of color during a game against the Boiling Springs Bubblers. The Eagles were instructed to forfeit the remaining games at all age levels following the incident. Despite efforts by parents and coaches to address the situation, the league imposed penalties on the Eagles, including a two-game suspension without fans and ultimately a full season forfeiture for over 220 kids involved in the program. The head coach and assistant coach were also banned from the league for the rest of the season. The decision left players and parents disappointed and frustrated, but they remain determined to stay strong and continue supporting each other. The Eagles are seeking opportunities to schedule scrimmages with other teams to allow their players, especially the seniors, a chance to finish the season on a positive note. The CFA Youth Football League mentioned that the Eagles' midget age group would still be allowed to participate in the playoffs, recognizing their hard work throughout the season. Despite the challenges faced, the Eagles are focused on maintaining their team spirit and unity in the face of adversity.
