NYC Detective Faces Charges for Impersonating Security at Ryder Cup

An NYPD detective reportedly attended the Ryder Cup golf tournament in full gear, claiming to be working security for President Trump while on sick leave. Detective Melvin Eng is now facing administrative charges for theft of services after allegedly getting into the tournament for free and falsely stating he was working for the president. Eng's ruse was uncovered when he dropped his gun magazine in front of real security personnel at the event.

Eng, who is the president of the NYPD Asian Jade Society, arrived at the Farmingdale tournament in tactical gear and asserted he was providing security for the visiting president. He even suggested he was working for federal authorities, which allowed him access to the event until his magazine mishap led to his removal. The NYPD suspended Eng on Monday following the incident.

Concerns were raised about the potential risks posed by Eng's actions, as he managed to enter the tournament with his firearm despite being on sick leave. The NYPD has not yet provided a statement regarding the situation.
