Defense Attorney Challenges Louisiana State Police's Assertion in Kyren Lacy Fatal Crash Case
A lawyer representing former LSU football player Kyren Lacy challenged Louisiana State Police's assertion that Lacy was responsible for a fatal crash. Lacy faced charges of negligent homicide following a collision that resulted in the death of 78-year-old Herman Hall. The attorney, Matt Ory, disputed the claim that Lacy caused the crash, citing evidence from the district attorney's investigation. Ory argued that Lacy was not actively passing vehicles at the time of the crash, as he had returned to his lane before the collision occurred.
According to Ory, Lacy had passed four vehicles in a no-pass zone but had re-entered his lane approximately 90 yards behind where the crash took place. Ory emphasized that Lacy was nearly a football field away from the crash site when the collision occurred, making it unlikely that his actions directly caused the accident. The district attorney's report, as presented by Ory, contradicted LSP's assertion that Lacy was actively passing vehicles at the time of the crash.
Ory also raised concerns about the driver of the second vehicle involved in the crash, who reportedly stated that she was trying to avoid a gold truck rather than Lacy's Dodge Charger. Body-cam footage showed the trooper directing the driver to include details about avoiding the Charger in her statement. Ory questioned why LSP did not question a passenger in Lacy's car, who could have provided valuable insights into the incident.
The attorney's interview with HTV's Martin Folse highlighted discrepancies between LSP's account of the crash and the evidence presented in the district attorney's report. Ory's defense of Lacy's actions focused on the timing and distance between Lacy's passing maneuver and the collision, suggesting that Lacy was not directly responsible for the tragic outcome. The interview shed light on the complexities of the case and raised questions about the thoroughness of the initial investigation.
