Journey's Neal Schon Opens Up About Steve Perry Reunion Hopes and Band's Future Plans
Journey fans have long hoped for a reunion with Steve Perry, but guitarist Neal Schon has revealed that the door remains closed both professionally and personally. Despite efforts to reconnect, including inviting Perry to a San Francisco Giants game, Schon has received no response. The lack of communication has persisted since Perry's departure from Journey in 1998.
Schon expressed his disappointment in the ongoing silence from Perry, emphasizing that he has tried to reach out in a friendly manner without success. Despite their fractured relationship, Schon still respects Perry as an artist and praised his solo album Traces released in 2018.
While a reunion with Perry seems unlikely, Journey is preparing for a major return to the road in 2026 after a brief touring hiatus in 2025. With vocalist Arnel Pineda leading the group, Journey has over 120 shows scheduled over the next two years, including a performance at the Stagecoach Music Festival on April 25.
Schon has been working on new material during the band's downtime and is eager to collaborate with the rest of the band to develop these ideas. He remains optimistic about the future of Journey and believes that fans will appreciate the new music and longer sets planned for their upcoming shows. Despite the lack of communication with Perry, Schon harbors no ill will and remains focused on the band's creative endeavors.
