JerryFest: Celebrating the Grateful Dead's Legacy in Five Points, Columbia

Columbia's Five Points recently hosted the 11th JerryFest, a celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Grateful Dead and the legacy of Jerry Garcia. The event featured live music performances and various activities for fans of the iconic band. The festival was organized by the owners of Loose Lucy’s, a popular hippie shop in Five Points, in partnership with the Five Points Association.

The Grateful Dead, known for their unique music and devoted fan base, first performed in 1965. Their only South Carolina appearance took place in 1985 at the Carolina Coliseum on Halloween night. JerryFest aimed to honor the band's enduring influence on music and culture, bringing together fans of all ages to celebrate the band's legacy.

The day-long celebration featured performances by bands such as Grass is Dead, Cosmic Charlie, The Grateful Brothers, Stillhouse, and Ten Mile Ride. The event attracted a diverse crowd, including longtime Deadheads and younger fans who have discovered the band's music. Attendees enjoyed live music, art installations, tie-dye and face painting stations, and an after party at Bang Back Pinball Lounge.

JerryFest provided a platform for fans to come together and experience the joy and community that the Grateful Dead has fostered over the past six decades.
