RFK Racing Faces Class Action Lawsuit Over Data Breach: What You Need to Know

A NASCAR championship-winning team, Roush Fenway Keselowski Racing, is facing a potential class action lawsuit due to a data breach that exposed user information. The lawsuit was filed by an Illinois man in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of North Carolina. The breach occurred in May, and affected individuals were notified in September, with the plaintiff's social security number being among the exposed data. If approved as a class action lawsuit, over 100 people could join the case.

The plaintiff alleges that RFK Racing did not take adequate measures to prevent the data breach, resulting in severe impacts on the affected individuals. The total number of people affected by the breach is currently unknown, and WCNC Charlotte has requested a report from the North Carolina Attorney General's Office. RFK Racing, based in Concord and founded by Jack Roush, has been competing in the NASCAR Cup Series since 1988. Fenway Sports Group and Brad Keselowski joined the ownership group in 2007 and 2022, respectively.

The team fields three cars in the Cup Series driven by Keselowski, Chris Buescher, and Ryan Preece, with a total of 143 wins in the series, ranking fifth all-time. Notable drivers like Mark Martin, Matt Kenseth, Carl Edwards, and Kurt Busch have raced for RFK Racing, with Kenseth and Busch winning titles for the team in 2003 and 2004. RFK Racing has not provided a comment on the ongoing litigation.
