Netflix's Success with Acquiring Shows: From 'The Hunting Wives' to 'Sullivan's Crossing

Netflix has been expanding its content library by investing in shows from other networks in addition to its original programming. One such success story is "The Hunting Wives," which debuted on Netflix after originally being slated for Starz. The show was renewed for new seasons after a record-breaking premiere, with exclusive licensing rights in the U.S. for a year. Based on May Cobb's novel, the series follows Sophie and Margo in a murder mystery with lots of drinking and intense chemistry.
Another show that Netflix acquired streaming rights for is "Doc," a Fox series that streams new episodes on Hulu. The show premiered in 2024 and centers on the chief of internal medicine at a fictional hospital in Minneapolis. Netflix also licensed "The Way Home" from the Hallmark Channel, a series about three generations of women who discover a pond on their land that allows them to time travel.
"The Way Home" became a hit for Netflix, especially after the success of "Sullivan's Crossing," which initially premiered on CTV and later on The CW. Netflix licensed the series in Canada and the U.S., helping it reach a larger audience. "Sullivan's Crossing" was renewed for a fourth season, set to premiere in 2026. With these successful licensing deals, Netflix continues to offer a diverse range of content to its subscribers.
