Michael McLeod has signed a three-year contract with Avangard Omsk in the KHL, marking his return to Russia's top pro league. The 26-year-old forward previously played 19 games with Omsk during the 2024-25 season. This move suggests that McLeod will not be returning to the NHL anytime soon.
McLeod's departure from the NHL came after he took an indefinite leave of absence in January 2024 following legal issues. He was charged with one count of sexual assault and one count of abetting the offence after an investigation into events involving the 2018 Canadian world junior team. The Mississauga, Ont., native was a first-round pick, 12th overall, by the Devils in 2016. Throughout his NHL career, he has accumulated 85 points, with 29 goals and 56 assists, in 287 games.
