Remembering John Lodge: A Tribute to the Moody Blues Bassist and Songwriter

On October 10, John Lodge, the longtime bassist, singer, and songwriter of the Moody Blues, passed away at the age of 82. His family confirmed his sudden and unexpected death, expressing their deep sadness at the loss. Lodge, known for his love of family, music, and faith, peacefully passed away while surrounded by his loved ones and the music of the Everly Brothers and Buddy Holly. His family expressed gratitude to his fans for their unwavering support.

Born in Birmingham, England, in 1943, John Lodge joined the Moody Blues in 1966, replacing the band's founding bassist and singer/guitarist. He contributed to the band's most successful albums and wrote several hit songs, such as "I'm Just a Singer in a Rock and Roll Band" and "Ride My See-Saw." The Moody Blues, initially a blues act, evolved into a prominent progressive rock band with the release of their best-selling album, "Days of Future Passed," in 1967. The band sold over 70 million albums and was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2018.

Despite his passing, John Lodge had upcoming tour dates scheduled with his solo band in December in the western United States. His death follows the loss of other Moody Blues members, including keyboardist Mike Pinder in April 2024 and flautist Ray Thomas in 2018. The band's original lineup also featured drummer Graeme Edge. John Lodge's legacy as a talented musician and beloved family man will be deeply missed by fans and loved ones alike.
