Wendy Williams' Life at Coterie: A Look Inside the Luxury Assisted-Living Facility

Wendy Williams has shared details about her living situation at Coterie, a luxury assisted-living facility in New York City. She resides on one floor at the facility, which includes a memory care unit that is locked, requiring permission to leave. Williams is not allowed to have a cell phone but has a landline for outgoing calls. Her friend Max Tucci described the facility as a place where billionaires send their grandmothers, but Williams has expressed her desire to be moved from her current floor.

In 2022, Williams was placed under a court-appointed guardianship and later diagnosed with progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia. Despite the diagnosis, Williams denies having dementia. The lobby of Coterie is described as elegant, with amenities such as a 24/7 nursing staff, a private movie theater, a snack bar, a spa, and a hair salon available to residents.

Williams has been a resident at the facility since 2023 and has recently made public appearances after staying out of the spotlight. She mentioned attending a megachurch in Brooklyn, which she finds comforting. Williams initially stayed on the third floor of the facility before being moved to the memory care unit. She was granted an iPad in her studio suite, which costs $25,800 per month, to stay connected and informed.

The Cut reported on Williams's financial situation, including the sale of her apartment and the rehoming of her cats by her guardian. Williams uses her iPad to listen to her old radio show and keep up with news about herself. The memory care unit is described as having a gym where Williams was spotted working out on a treadmill. Despite the challenges, Williams was noted to look good during her workout.

Williams's ex-husband, Kevin Hunter, filed a lawsuit challenging the guardianship, alleging fraud and seeking damages. The lawsuit was ultimately thrown out by a judge, but Hunter may have the opportunity to refile. Williams filed for divorce from Hunter in 2019 after discovering he fathered another child. Their son, Kevin Hunter Jr., expressed his desire for his mother to be freed from the current situation.

The future of Williams's guardianship remains uncertain, with the possibility of a new medical report and potential changes to the restrictions. The judge overseeing the case could decide to reaffirm the guardianship, modify the restrictions, replace the guardian, or remove the guardianship entirely. Sources suggest that removing the guardianship is unlikely, and inquiries have been made to Coterie for comment.
