Exploring the Potential for Professional Soccer in Pensacola: Stadium Location Discussions with the USL

Pensacola, Florida is in talks with the United Soccer League to potentially bring professional soccer to the city. The main question is where a 3,500 to 5,000-seat soccer stadium would be located if the league chooses Pensacola. The City of Pensacola and the USL have been in discussions since signing a one-year deal in March to explore the possibility of a new soccer team in the city. Mayor DC Reeves mentioned that ongoing conversations indicate a level of support for the idea.
If Pensacola is selected by the USL, the city will need to identify a suitable location for the stadium. Mayor Reeves emphasized that the model being considered is for a downtown stadium rather than one on the outskirts. He also clarified that the stadium would not be fully funded by the city, with potential contributions from the league, private ownership, or other entities.
Fabian Espinosa from the Pensacola Futbol Club expressed enthusiasm for the prospect of a professional soccer team in the city. He believes it would benefit the local soccer community, providing them with closer access to professional soccer. Espinosa also mentioned that the club would be open to hosting a professional team for practice if needed.
While Mayor Reeves has specific sites in mind for the stadium, he has not disclosed them yet. He is optimistic about Pensacola's potential as a market for the USL and anticipates more clarity on the stadium's location in the coming months. The city is actively engaged in discussions with the league to make the possibility of professional soccer in Pensacola a reality.
