Remembering Joe Dera: A Legacy of Music Industry Excellence
Renowned entertainment publicist Joe Dera, known for representing iconic figures like Paul McCartney, David Bowie, Elton John, and Paul Newman, passed away at the age of 74 in Bentonia, Mississippi. With over 50 years of experience in the industry, Dera's career included stints at Track Records, Levinson and Associates, and Rogers & Cowan, where he managed high-profile clients such as Tony Bennett and Sparks. In 1983, he played a key role in overseeing David Bowie's Serious Moonlight Tour and later represented Live Aid in 1985, among other notable events.
In 1989, Dera established his own firm, Dera & Associates, which counted McCartney, Ringo Starr, and Linda McCartney among its clients. Over the years, he also represented Elton John, Billy Joel, Queen, ZZ Top, Duran Duran, Pink Floyd, and more. In 2008, Dera rebranded the company as Dera, Roslan & Campion Inc., promoting Eileen Campion and Chris Roslan to partners. Even after retiring in 2016, Dera continued to offer pro bono counsel to local businesses and supported organizations like the Nordoff Robbins Foundation.
Dera is survived by his wife, Suzanne Case, his son Samuel Mulford Dera, his sister Yvonne Dera Edwards, and his former wife Jay Mulford. His legacy as a respected publicist and advocate for the music industry will be remembered by many.
