The Songwriting Legacy of Thomas Rhett Akins Sr.: From Country Artist to Hitmaker

Thomas Rhett Akins Sr. was born on October 13, 1969, in Valdosta, Georgia. He started his music career in the 1990s and achieved success on the Hot Country Songs chart. Akins is known for his songwriting skills and has written hits for artists like Blake Shelton, Luke Bryan, and Brooks & Dunn.
Growing up in a musical family, Akins learned to play the guitar at a young age. He attended the University of Georgia, where he studied business and played football. However, his passion for music led him to drop out of college and pursue a career in country music.
In 1992, Akins moved to Nashville to pursue his dream of becoming a country music artist. He signed with Decca Records and released his debut single, "What They're Talkin' About," which gained moderate success. His breakthrough came with the release of "That Ain't My Truck," which became a top 3 hit on the country charts.
Despite not achieving further success as a recording artist, Akins found his niche as a songwriter. Alongside Dallas Davidson and Ben Hayslip, he formed the Peach Pickers, a songwriting trio responsible for numerous No. 1 country hits. Akins has writing credits on 31 chart-topping songs, performed by artists like Luke Bryan, Blake Shelton, and his son, Thomas Rhett.
Some of the hit songs Akins co-wrote include "All About Tonight," "Honey Bee," and "Boys 'Round Here" by Blake Shelton, as well as "I Don't Want This Night to End" and "Huntin', Fishin', and Lovin' Every Day" by Luke Bryan. His songwriting talents have also been recognized by other country music stars, making him a sought-after collaborator in the industry.
