Versatile Thoroughbreds Shine at the 2025 Retired Racehorse Project's Thoroughbred Makeover

Thoroughbreds showcased their versatility at the Retired Racehorse Project's Thoroughbred Makeover event held at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington. The competition featured 10 disciplines, with horses having the option to compete in up to two categories. The event's new format allowed 10 horses from each discipline to advance to the championship round, a change from the previous top-five qualification. Despite no horse winning both disciplines, Sekt, trained by Amy Faison, impressed judges in eventing and show jumping, securing top-five placements in both categories.

One notable participant at the 2025 Thoroughbred Makeover was Sibelius, a former racehorse trained by Jerry O'Dwyer, who had a successful career on the track, earning over $1.8 million in purse earnings. Sibelius transitioned to a show career under Jerry's wife, Allison, and competed in dressage and freestyle at the event. Another standout was Street Ready, a multiple graded stakes-placed horse, who excelled in the Field Hunter division, showcasing his talent and versatility in a different discipline.

The competition saw various winners in different disciplines, including Battle Born in Barrel Racing, Vestal's Gap in Competitive Trail, Patou Road in Dressage, Bandon in Freestyle, Qia in Polo, Miz Mosler in Ranch Work, Mentha in Show Hunter, and Late Night Cruiser in Show Jumper. The event highlighted the adaptability and skills of retired Thoroughbreds in various equestrian disciplines, demonstrating their potential beyond the racetrack.
