Rare Recording Unveiled: The Who Covers The Beatles in Super Deluxe Edition of 'Who Are You

The iconic rock band The Who has released a rare recording of them covering The Beatles' classic song "I Saw Her Standing There" during a rehearsal session in 1977. This track will be part of the upcoming Super Deluxe Edition of their album "Who Are You." The cover features drummer Keith Moon on lead vocals, with Roger Daltrey joining in, and backing vocals by Andy Fairweather-Low and Billy Nicholls.

The Super Deluxe Edition of "Who Are You" will include over a dozen songs from the 1977 rehearsal at The Who's Shepperton Studios in London. It features various mixes, outtakes, demos, and live performances from their 1979 U.S. tour with drummer Kenney Jones. The Blu-ray disc will have new mixes by Steven Wilson, and the box set includes a 100-page book with extensive notes and rare photos.

Among the unreleased tracks in the Super Deluxe Edition is a version of "Sister Disco" with a "lost" guitar part by Pete Townshend. It also includes a performance from The Who's last show with Moon in May 1978 and an early version of "Who Are You" from a 1976 concert in Toronto. The reissue will be available in various formats, including four-LP and two-CD packages, colored vinyl, and half-speed-master vinyl LPs.

"Who Are You" was The Who's eighth studio album and the last to feature Moon. It was released in 1978, shortly before Moon's tragic death. The album was a critical success, with hits like the title track and "New Song." It reached No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart and was certified double platinum in the U.S. for selling over 2 million copies.

Fans can pre-order the various versions of the "Who Are You" reissue on The Who's official website. The album marked a significant moment in The Who's career, capturing their sound and reflecting the changing music landscape of the late '70s. The Super Deluxe Edition offers a unique glimpse into the band's creative process and live performances during that era.
