Road Racing Calendar Update: North West 200 and Irish National Meetings Await Confirmation

The North West 200 race week in Northern Ireland is still pending confirmation for May, while the dates for the Irish national meetings in the upcoming year are awaiting approval from the Motor Cycle Union of Ireland (Ulster Centre). NW200 race director Mervyn Whyte mentioned that an announcement regarding race week dates is imminent, with applications already submitted. Road racing in the Republic of Ireland has been on hold since 2022 due to insurance issues, and the Dunlop Masters Superbike Championship at Mondello Park was canceled this year for the same reason.

In contrast, Northern Ireland saw a more positive outlook this year, with the return of the Tandragee 100 after a hiatus since 2022. There is also optimism for the Mid Antrim 150 to make a comeback in 2026 following disruptions in 2022. The Irish road racing season typically kicks off with the Cookstown 100 in April, while the Ulster Grand Prix has been on hold since 2019 due to financial challenges.

After the 2019 Ulster Grand Prix, it was revealed that the event was in significant debt, leading to a Company Voluntary Arrangement with creditors in 2021. Efforts to revive the race, including a proposed two-day meeting in 2024, have not materialized yet, but ongoing discussions aim to bring back the iconic event. The 2026 road racing calendar currently includes events like the Cookstown 100 in April, North West 200 in May, and Isle of Man TT in May and June.

Other notable races on the calendar are the Southern 100 in July, Armoy, Manx Grand Prix in August, and Classic TT in August. The Mid Antrim 150, traditionally held in August, faced setbacks in 2022 but is hopeful for a successful return in the upcoming year. Stay tuned for updates on the road racing calendar as more details are confirmed.
