Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and Rep. Robert Garcia Demand Accountability for Immigration Enforcement Efforts

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass is set to address immigration enforcement efforts in the city on Monday. She will be joined by Rep. Robert Garcia, D-Calif., and immigrant rights leaders to demand accountability for the unlawful detention of U.S. citizens and immigrants by federal agents. Mayor Bass has been a vocal advocate for L.A.'s immigrant communities and has criticized the Trump administration's targeted immigration enforcement policies.
Since June, Mayor Bass has been speaking out against the Trump administration's immigration enforcement tactics. She has also opposed President Trump's deployment of National Guard troops in California, which included nearly 5,000 members of California's National Guard and 700 active-duty Marines sent to Los Angeles during protests. A federal judge later ruled that Trump's use of troops was illegal and violated the Posse Comitatus Act, which restricts the use of military force for domestic law enforcement without congressional approval.
