In 1970, he founded Mudcrutch, a band named after the farm where they practiced, which later transformed into Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers. Known for iconic hits like "Free Fallin'," "Into the Great Wide Open," and "I Won't Back Down," Petty's music continues to resonate with fans worldwide. "I Won't Back Down" has even become a rallying cry for University of Florida football enthusiasts, often played at Gator games. Despite his passing in October 2017 in Santa Monica, California, Tom Petty's music lives on, inspiring generations of music lovers.
