Rising Stars: HBCUs Shine in Preseason Scrimmages and Exhibitions

Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) are making waves this preseason with impressive wins in closed-door matchups known as "secret scrimmages." These scrimmages, which involve Division I programs and are not open to fans or media, provide coaches with a chance to assess their teams before the official season kicks off.
In a recent rule change, NCAA now allows two full exhibitions against any four-year program, opening up opportunities for more exposure for HBCUs. Several HBCUs have seized this chance to shine, with standout performances in both secret scrimmages and public matchups.
Arkansas–Pine Bluff secured a 77-69 victory over Arkansas–Little Rock in a secret scrimmage, with new players like Jaquan Scott, Alex Mirhosseini, and Quion Williams making significant contributions. Alabama A&M and Alcorn State also notched wins in public and secret scrimmages, showcasing their depth and talent.
These preseason games serve as a crucial benchmark for HBCUs, highlighting their potential and readiness for the upcoming season. With strong showings from newcomers and returning players, HBCUs are poised to make a statement in the 2025 season. Fans can anticipate exciting surprises as these teams gear up for official competition.
