Tim Curry's Candid Reflections on Tom Cruise and Hollywood in 'Vagabond

Curry praised Cruise's dedication to his role in "Legend" but found some of his method acting habits bemusing. He respected Cruise's professionalism but felt that the hype surrounding the "Mission: Impossible" star was excessive, highlighting Hollywood's obsession with image and fame.
During the production of "Legend," Curry and Cruise did not spend much time together, partly due to Curry's prosthetic makeup routine. Despite not engaging with Cruise extensively, Curry found him to be a thoughtful and considerate colleague.
"Legend" received mixed reviews upon its release in 1986, with Curry earning praise for his performance and makeup. Over time, the film gained a cult following, with fans considering it an underrated fantasy classic.
In his memoir, Curry reflected on his experiences in Hollywood and fame, describing himself as a "vagabond" who creates homes in various places. He shared colorful anecdotes from his time living in Los Angeles, where he observed the city's vibrant scene in the 1970s and 1980s.
Curry recalled staying at iconic Hollywood hotels and interacting with celebrities like Stacy Keach and Diana Ross. He noted the drug-fueled atmosphere of the era, with stories about Iggy Pop's daring pool dives and the prevalence of drugs in Los Angeles.
Despite initially feeling out of place in LA, Curry eventually found a sense of belonging in the city. He turned to Los Angeles for healing after the loss of his sister and found solace in his home during his recovery from a stroke in 2012.
"Vagabond," Curry's memoir, was released on Oct. 14, offering readers insights into his life, career, and perspectives on fame and Hollywood.
