Islanders Extend Win Streak with Victory Over Sharks: Schaefer's Point Streak Continues

The New York Islanders secured their third consecutive victory by defeating the San Jose Sharks 4-3. Matthew Schaefer contributed a goal and an assist to the win, extending his point streak to six games. Bo Horvat, Casey Cizikas, and Emil Heineman also found the back of the net for the Islanders, with Ilya Sorokin making 33 saves to secure the win.

San Jose Sharks, who are still winless this season with a record of 0-4-2, saw goals from Collin Graf, Adam Gaudette, and Macklin Celebrini. Rookie Michael Misa, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2025 NHL Draft, earned his first NHL point with an assist on Gaudette's goal. Yaroslav Askarov made 23 saves for the Sharks.

Heineman scored his third goal of the season in the final minute of the first period, giving the Islanders a lead they maintained throughout the game. Schaefer further extended the lead to 4-2 with a goal in the second period, assisted by Anthony Duclair.

The Sharks opened the scoring with a short-handed goal from Graf, but the Islanders quickly responded with goals from Horvat and Cizikas to take the lead. Heineman's goal added to the Islanders' advantage in the first period.

Despite Celebrini scoring for the Sharks in the third period to narrow the gap, they were unable to find the equalizer. Schaefer made NHL history by becoming the second defenseman to record a point in each of his first six career games, joining Marek Zidlicky.

The Sharks will face the New York Rangers next, while the Islanders will host the Detroit Red Wings in their upcoming games.
