Apple Original Films Secures Global Rights for Psychological Thriller 'Sponsor' Starring Jason Segel and Directed by James Ponsoldt

Apple Original Films has secured the global rights to the psychological thriller Sponsor, with Jason Segel starring and James Ponsoldt directing. The film, set to be shot in California, follows Peter, who faces a life-changing decision after a tragic accident. As he navigates a recovery program, he seeks guidance from a mysterious sponsor named Jerry.

Produced by Apple Studios and Platinum Dunes, Sponsor is a collaboration between Segel, Ponsoldt, and producers Michael Bay, Brad Fuller, and Alex Ginno. This project marks another partnership between Apple, Segel, and Ponsoldt, known for their work on the Emmy-nominated comedy series Shrinking and the 2015 film The End of the Tour.

Segel, currently filming Anxious People with Angelina Jolie, will also star in Jorma Taccone's Over Your Dead Body. Ponsoldt, represented by UTA and Brillstein Partners, continues to showcase his directorial talent in this upcoming thriller. Sponsor adds to Apple Original Films' impressive lineup, which includes the highly anticipated F1 The Movie premiering on Apple TV in December 2025.
